Annuals

These are plants that keep on giving all summer long! Beautiful blooms, vibrant and subtle colors and intoxicating fragrances make them essential additions to your gardens.  Many annuals provide habitat and food for beneficial insects. Syrphid, or Hoverfly, for example, are aphid predators that love the sweetness of alyssum and are great beneficial insects to have in your garden.  

 There are many cool-season annuals that grow best in the spring or fall, as well as the warm season ones that thrive in the summer heat.  You can extend the beauty of the cool season annuals by planting them on the east side of your house, where they are out of the afternoon sun. There are also the workhorse annuals, like Whopper and Dragon Wing begonias, along with Sunpatien impatiens. No deadheading required, and they are drought tolerant.   Many of our new varieties of coleus can grow in full sun and like to be a little on the dry side.   

You can plant annuals just about anywhere; in pots, window boxes and tucked into your vegetable and perennial gardens. They will bring color and joy wherever they are!
