Many people ask me what my favorite perennial is. If I had to choose it would be the old fashioned peonies and lily of the valley, both with those unforgettable fragrances. It brings back so many happy memories of growing up on the farm.
Perennials are plants that live for more than two years. When preparing your perennial garden keep that in mind, giving each plant room to mature by learning about sizes and growing habits. Then amend your soil by mixing compost into your garden which will feed your plants and build the soil.
Choose the right plant for your conditions. Planting a perennial that prefers a drier soil in a high moisture soil will most likely not thrive. Knowing which plants prefer sunny conditions or shady is important in order to create a successful garden that you will give you years of beauty and enjoyment. Creating and maintaining a perennial garden, whether large or small, will also add value to your home and property. Check out our planting directions for helpful tips.
